Slinky – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Just got in some slinky toys at Blast From The Past. They are packaged in an original style box. I had several when I was a kid. As I recall, I would spend ten minutes playing with this metal spring toy and about three weeks trying to untangle it after it would mysteriously hook itself together.
I had always chalked up its success to the massive t.v. advertising campaign and the catchy jingle, but I just learned that the toy debuted in 1945 before television. Darned if I know how they sold a spring to millions of people as a kid’s toy without the power of television. I can only imagine that the inventor’s presentation to the toy company executives must of been way better than the guy who tried to sell them the piece of wood.
